Forged Twenties

The below information is circulated in case the thieves try to operate in the Scunthorpe area

26/6. PC Nigel Powell, the community officer for Cleethorpes Seafront reports an attempt to pass a forged £20 note at a kiosk at Cleethorpes Seafront recently. The thief drove away in a silver BMW.

To remind readers the usual trick is to buy a small item with a forged £20 note and receive over £15 in change.

Various forged banknote detectors are available.  Cash handlers say the feel of the note is not right. The metal strip is sometimes not correct.

Please keep an eye out for anyone using £20 notes in this way and the silver BMW. Please report suspicions straight away to Police on 0845 60 60 222.

Truckwatch – Crime Prevention Scheme Extends to Humberside.

Police in Humberside have launched a new scheme to help hauliers operating in the area to tackle crime.

Truckwatch is a crime prevention initiative that was initially launched in the South Yorkshire area.

It is a membership scheme with features including:

A communication network which informs truck drivers and operators about stolen vehicles and loads,
The provision of security of advice for yards and depots,
The provision of regular updates on freight crime trends locally, nationally and internationally.

Following new funding from the Regional Development Agency, Yorkshire Forward, the Truckwatch scheme has recently expanded to include all police forces in the Yorkshire and Humber area.

The initiative works in partnership with the Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association, VOSA as well as Crimestoppers.

Briefly, the system involves notification by police forces of stolen vehicles and loads to the dedicated Truckwatch desk which operates 24 hours a day. Details of relevant offences are then forwarded to all participating operators and drivers by voicemail onto mobile telephones to ensure they are aware of the latest incidents.

Detective Sergeant Howard Brown from the Humberside Police Crime Policy Unit, said: “This is an important crime reduction development within the Humberside Police area and we are hoping that it leads to the prevention and detection of crimes involving goods vehicles.”
