CCTV

A mobile CCTV van is operating in the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham areas.

safelinks monitors the work of the unit and will keep you informed.

The van is being used at trouble spots in North East Lincolnshire.

The system is intended to help the police and communities to control crime, bad behaviour and drunks.

You will see the unit at all hours and at places where trouble occurs.

It is making the place much safer by preventing trouble - not just reacting to it.

Please give us a call if you can help with the best use of the van.

The unit are also patrolling in areas where residents have complained about youths gathering and causing trouble.

The unit has recently undergone an upgrade using digital technology and DVD recording to improve the quality of images particularly in low light conditions.

Patrols in the Immingham area are taking place

Also

Humberside are making more use of the evidence which can be gathered from personal cameras fitted to Police Officers' uniform. This will assist in the conviction of criminals and those who mis-behave by a clearer presentation of the scene of an incident. Never has the saying, " A photograph is better than a thousand words." safelinks was allowed to view the movies recorded by the officers in the experimental stage and it can be over powering.

In addition, you will be seeing the installation of warning posters which alone will reduce the opportunity to use selfish behaviour.

Please give us a call if you can help with the best place for the signs.

There have been prosecutions supported by these personal cameras.

Bogus Callers Awareness Campaign

4/6

Can you be sure who’s coming through your door? That is the question being posed by Humberside Police in a new campaign to raise awareness about bogus callers.

Radio advertising, billboards and buses are being used to remind the public of the activity of bogus callers and posters and leaflets are also being distributed within the local community at libraries, community centres and post offices.

Neighbourhood policing officers including PCSOs will assist in the distribution of advice leaflets and window stickers among local areas to hammer home the messages.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Leaver said: “Bogus callers often target the most vulnerable members of our communities and it is the aim of this campaign to increase awareness among these groups and make everyone think a little more carefully about who they are opening their door to.”

The key messages being driven by the campaign are:
• Appearances can be deceptive - bogus callers often look respectful but are deceitful
• Together we can shut the door on these criminals
• If in doubt keep them out

Mr Leaver said: “Most people who call at your home will be genuine. But sometimes, people turn up unannounced with the intention of tricking their way into your home to steal valuables and money.

“They may pose as an official caller from a local authority or a utility company, gas, electricity or water, with a plausible explanation for needing to enter the home.

“Bogus callers sometimes work in pairs or even teams. They are often well organised. One will distract the person while the other searches the house for money or other valuables. They can be men, women or children, or often a combination. Watch out for anyone who says they are in a hurry. Don’t let them pressure or confuse you.”

Humberside Police is urging people to pay heed to the following advice:

LOCK, STOP, CHAIN and CHECK

When someone calls at your door and offers to do repairs to your home or to ask for urgent help, or when someone official knocks on your door, follow these simple steps to help protect yourself and your home from bogus callers.

LOCK:

Keep your front and back doors locked, even when at home.

STOP:

Before you answer, stop and think if you are expecting anyone. Check that you have locked any back doors and taken the key out. Look through the spy hole or the window to see who it is.

CHAIN:

If you decide to open the door, put the door chain or bar on first. Keep the bar or chain on while you are talking to the person on the doorstep. (Normally, when the door is shut and locked, leave the bar or chain off in case you need to get out in an emergency.) Some bogus callers call on older and vulnerable people saying they need help urgently. They may ask you to help them outside the house or ask to come in to make a phone call or have a glass of water. Only go to help them if you have someone else with you. Don’t worry if you choose not to help – it is not rude or unfriendly.

CHECK:

If someone who looks official calls at your door, always do the following. Ask for and carefully check their identity card, even if they have a prearranged appointment (all genuine callers will carry one). Do they look like the person on the card? Is the name the same one as that on your letter? Close the door while you do this. If you are not expecting them and they have not shown you an identity card, do not let them in until you have checked and double-checked that the caller is genuine.

ONLY LET THEM IN WHEN YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE THAT THEY ARE GENUINE.
Genuine callers will always be happy to make an appointment to call and will carry an identity card with a photograph. They won’t mind waiting if you want to phone and confirm their identity or want to rearrange the appointment.

REPORT BOGUS CALLERS: 0845 60 60 222. For more information go to www.humberside.police.uk

People Who Make Life Miserable

"Anti-social behaviour includes a range of problems – noisy neighbours, abandoned cars, vandalism, graffiti, litter and youth nuisance.

It can hold back the improvement of our areas, creating the place where crime can take hold.

The Government, the Police, NE Lincolnshire Council and Shoreline are committed to cracking down on anti social behaviour.

Andy Everett, the anti social behaviour co-ordinator, works for Humberside Police, is the focal point for the reduction of mis-behaviour by the few individuals who set out to make life unbearable for a number of others. He has a team of two researchers and an investigator gathering evidence, all working in partnership with the Neighbourhood Police Teams, another integral part of the team is Catherine Byrnes who is the anti social behaviour co-ordinator for NE Lincs Council.

Already thirty one full anti social behaviour orders have been secured when steps have been taken to improve behaviour and these steps have failed. There are currently nine applications for orders being worked upon.

safelinks wants to work with ordinary, properly behaved people, the anti social behaviour officer, the Police, NE Lincolnshire Council and anyone similarly minded to make NE Lincolnshire a better place to be.

The secret to its success is the strength of the community, to raise standards and information from the public in much the same way you have give information on crime and drug dealing.

Andy Everett or Cate Byrnes can give you guidance on the formulation of evidence, who is restrained by orders etc. Either phone 0845 60 60 222 ext 1668 or 1670 or email safelinks via messages/private.

Please go to your area crime page and then click, "community" to view details of ASBOs.

More later but meanwhile please click the Home Office link below"

Reducing Crime and Anti Social Behaviour in Your Area.

Safelinks wants to further reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in this area brought about by the public and police.

There is less crime and bad behaviour in areas where there is an active neighbourhood watch in place. The reason is that the police are only as effective as the quality of information given to the police by the public. In other words grouping together protects your home and  outnumbers criminals.

Graham Reynolds and Howard Westoby are experienced neighbourhood watch group development officers and are there to help you to set up a group to protect your street.  You then gain the strength of The Humberside Association of Neighbourhood Watch Groups.

Setting up is not difficult and does not involve a great lot of time to function. As with all these things the success depends on people interested in making their area much safer. I think that person is you.

It's about grouping together and caring without interfering. Graham and Howard can help you get the balance right.

There is a clear difference between a general moan and groan about the state of things and reporting a suspicious incident or the activities of a criminal. The latter puts criminals in a position of disadvantage.

For years the best successes by the Police have been the public calling about a suspicious incident, the Police responding to the incident and arresting the criminal or stopping the incident.

The Police are getting better so we, the public, need to get better too.

If you are interested in helping to start a neighbourhood watch group or want to know if a group exists in your area please call safelinks on admin@safelinks.info and we will ask Graham or Howard to call.

Smartwater - Coming to a Burglary Hotspot Near You

Police in North East Lincolnshire have introduced Smart Water as part of their crime prevention and detection toolbag.

Some time ago Safelinks was invited along to a Smart Water training session with detectives, uniformed officers and representatives of the criminal justice system.

Thousands of houses are protected in the North East Lincolnshire area and the kits are now being pushed out to other house burglary hotspots.

Smartwater is a colourless, stain free permanent liquid made up of several chemical compounds.  Each bottle has the compounds in different levels making no bottle alike. The chemical composition is registered so that if a person comes into contact with the fluid the chemical can be tracked back to a certain house.

Each supply is entirely different so an item marked with Smart Water in another town found by Police here in Grimsby can be traced with certainty. If a thief from another town comes to Grimsby and is sprayed with the material then there is no escape if he returns home.

The system is already in place in several areas of the country and more will be using the system.

Smartwater packs are being distributed by Police Community Support Officers and Community Wardens and the distribution is growing daily.

Smartwater spray systems are also installed in properties likely to be attacked by burglars.

Every person, arrested day or night, is screened for Smartwater contamination and already a conviction has been secured due entirely to the Smartwater system.

Items of property coming into Police possession through arrests or in execution of search warrants are checked for Smartwater.

The Smartwater Fluid and Information Guide

 Shed/Garage Alarms

The Humberside Association of Neighbourhood Watch Groups (HANWaG) has sold security items to it's members for a number of years.  Because of the large number of shed and garage burglaries taking place at the moment HANWaG want to help non members too.

Shed /garage alarms are available, at reasonable cost, in keypad or keyfob versions.

The difference is that the key pad version is activated by pressing your self selected 4 figure code. You simply remember the code. With the keyfob the alarm it is armed by means of the fob. You need the fob with you of course.

The alarms are priced at Keypad £10.99 + p&p and the keyfob at £12.99 + p&p.

To order please email admin@hanwag.org.uk   with your name and postal address

Overview

The Intruder Alarms are the loudest, the best made, the most versatile and have the longest battery life of any similar product in the UK. The innovation of adding a magnetic contact trigger with two metres of cable has doubled the protection that these alarms can give.

Suitable for homes, sheds, garages, caravans and general purpose security. This new range of alarms is manufactured to ISO9001, and now incorporates a magnetic contact option giving greater versatility and breadth of application.

The Keypad/Key Fob PIR Alarm can be used either as a traditional alarm or as a door entry chime detector. The mounting bracket is swivel connected to the alarm body, thus allowing complete control of the area to be covered.

The Keypad version operates via a four digit code. The Key Fob version allows a unique code setting to be learnt which means that a single key fob can control a number of units and additional key fobs can be added to control the same alarm.

* Keypad or Key Fob controlled
* PIR and Magnetic Contact activated
* Entry/exit delay
* Full operating instructions included
* All fixings supplied
* 130+ dBs
* 1 year warranty

Drugs Raids in Grimsby

Police in the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham areas continue working to stop the dealing of drugs.

Regular information to the Police is needed and you can help to improve your area in this way.  This can be done in confidence by phoning Police on 0845 60 60 222. What has worked very well is regular emails to safelinks on via messages/private. It helps if you leave an email address as we can ask specific questions posed by Police Intelligence Officers.

It may take time until you see something happening as the investigation will not be obvious so the time to call is now.

If you need to remain anonymous please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
